Auction or fixed price: which should you choose?

When you list a vehicle on Breaqs, you choose between two selling formats: Auction and Fixed price. There's also a Not for sale option if you just want to showcase a vehicle without selling it. This article helps you decide which selling format fits your situation.

How auction works on Breaqs

  • You choose a start date and time and the auction runs for 7 days from that moment.
  • You can set a reserve price - the minimum amount you're willing to accept. If bidding doesn't reach it, the vehicle isn't sold.
  • We recommend scheduling the start at least a week ahead, so the listing stays discoverable for over two weeks total - giving buyers time to find it and add it to their favorites before bidding even opens.
  • The vehicle goes to the highest bidder, provided the reserve (if set) is met.

Auction is a good fit if:

  • You want the market to determine the price, especially for rare, desirable, or hard-to-value vehicles.
  • You want to create urgency and competition between buyers, which can drive the final price up.
  • You're comfortable with some uncertainty about the outcome in exchange for the chance of a higher sale price.

How fixed price works on Breaqs

  • You set a specific asking price for the vehicle.
  • You choose whether to allow offers below your asking price. If you do, you can set a minimum offer amount you're willing to consider.
  • Buyers can purchase at your listed price right away, or submit an offer if you've enabled that.

Fixed price is a good fit if:

  • You already know what the vehicle is worth and want a predictable, straightforward sale.
  • You'd rather avoid the uncertainty of bidding and want to sell as soon as the right buyer comes along.
  • You want more control over the final price, with the option to still negotiate via offers.

What's the same either way

  • No seller fees. Listing is free and sellers don't pay any commission - only the winning bidder or buyer pays a commission on the final price.
  • Payment method: by default, the buyer pays you directly upon pickup. Full payment through the Breaqs platform, with funds held securely until the buyer confirms the vehicle is as described, is coming soon.
  • Both formats support the same listing details - photos, description, condition report, damage diagram and shipping options.

A third option: not for sale

If you don't want to sell right now but still want to show off your vehicle to the Breaqs community - for example, as part of your collection in My Garage - you can choose Not for sale instead. This skips pricing and payment settings entirely.

Still not sure?

As a rule of thumb: choose Auction when you're curious what the market will pay and want to create buzz around the listing. Choose Fixed price when you know your number and want a quicker, more predictable sale.
